In the area of Water, we seek to address gaps in drinking water and irrigation in water-scarce areas
In India, the right to clean drinking water is linked to the right to food, the right to clean environment and the right to health — all of these are protected under Article 21 of the Constitution as the right to life.
However, the availability of water, as a fundamental resource that defines the quality of human and other forms of life, is subject to various factors such as geography, socioeconomics, climate change and so on.

It is our endeavour to build a future where every person has access to water. we support more than 20 organisations working with some of the most vulnerable people in the water-scarce regions of India.
Our partners are active in areas located in the geographies of interest and agro-ecological zones — arid and semi-arid, hilly and poor water–quality regions.
The first step of our multi-pronged approach is to collaborate with organisations working on rural drinking water towards ensuring the adequacy and sustainability of water sources, strengthening the distribution systems and village institutions for effective implementation of water-related schemes, and improving the quality of water.
Under such initiatives, defunct water sources have been revived to guarantee households an easy access to adequate water throughout the year. Households also have access to safe drinking water and are informed of water quality issues.
Our partners also support community-level institutions in managing regular water distribution and mobilising resources for operations and maintenance.
We also focus on water for agriculture by augmenting surface and groundwater sources, sustaining soil moisture and facilitating efficient community management of irrigation water.
This has led to an increase in the area under Rabi cultivation, increase in fallow cultivable land brought under cultivation, a rise in the extent of irrigated land and in the number of farmers adopting efficient water and crop management practices.
Ensuring access to clean drinking water in urban slums is the other area of our work under Water.
