We support more than 150 organisations working with vulnerable populations in urban areas.
These vulnerable groups are migrant and informal sector workers, the homeless, people in informal settlements, the elderly poor and manual scavenging and waste pickers.
From promoting the rights of migrant and informal sector workers to providing care and support to the homeless and the abandoned elderly, our partners cover a range of issues and concerns that affect the lives of some of the most marginalised people in our cities.

Their work with migrant and informal sector workers has resulted in the formation and capacity building of collectives that help the workers obtain better working conditions and higher bargaining power. There is also improved occupational safety for such workers, as well as sanitary workers, with increased provision of compensation/death claims.
Our partners’ initiatives in informal settlements have enhanced access to social security entitlements such as pensions, scholarships and ration. There is also a marked improvement in living conditions with access to water, paved roads, sanitation, electricity, waste collection, healthcare facilities.
For the elderly, our partners strive to provide care and support for their physical, emotional and mental well-being, with improved access to health services and palliative and dementia care.
They also support the homeless in our cities by helping shelter-based/institution-based services, as well as community-based services, provide care, rehabilitation, family reintegration and so on.
Our partners also work towards increasing the participation of communities in the process of urban governance.
Some of our collaborative Urban Initiatives include mediation and legal aid for migrant and informal sector workers across major cities and comprehensive programmes for the homeless population in Bengaluru and Chennai. We also focus on improving the living conditions of people in the informal settlements of Bengaluru through a dedicated programme.
In the area of Urban Initiatives, we work through our partners.
